We have officially entered into a new year! And with this comes an opportunity – not just for resolutions, but for deep, meaningful transformation. As both an acupuncturist and wellness advocate, I've learned that lasting change requires we honor both our achievements and our challenges, our physical wellbeing and our inner wisdom.
Today, I'm sharing my complete guide to crafting your most intentional year yet. You can also listen to my episode on the We Get 2 Do This podcast where we walk through our own personal reflections of 2024 if you prefer an audio version! Otherwise, grab your journal, a warm cup of tea, find a quiet space, and let's begin this journey towards creating an intentional year together.
Guide to Creating an Intentional Year
Honoring Your Journey Through 2024
Before rushing into new goals, let's pause and acknowledge where you've been. Your experiences – both victories and challenges – have shaped who you're becoming.
I found this reflection practice to be very beneficial this year- from both a personal and professional standpoint. So much can happen in one year and taking the time to reflect on the entire year can give us a broader perspective of everything that happened, goals you may or may not have reached, relationships fostered, and how you grew.
Start by asking yourself:
What were your top 3 achievements this year? (Don't limit yourself to just career wins- I did both personal and professional achievements)
Which challenges shaped you most profoundly?
What habits served you well? Which ones are you ready to release?
The Body Knows: A Physical Check-In
As a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine, I've witnessed how our bodies hold wisdom about our journey. Take a moment to reflect:
How did your energy levels flow throughout the year?
What forms of movement brought you joy?
When did you feel most vibrant? Most depleted?
Creating Your Vision and Intention for the Year
Now comes the exciting part – crafting your vision for 2025. But let's approach this differently than typical goal-setting.
Physical Goals With Soul
Instead of just listing target numbers, ask:
What does your ideal morning feel like in your body?
How do you want to experience movement?
What new physical skills call to you?
Holistic Health Vision
Consider:
Which aspects of your health need more attention?
How can you better honor your body's signals?
What new healing practices intrigue you?
Making It Real: Your Action Plan
Vision without action is just dreaming. Here's how to make your intentions concrete:
Monthly Milestones
Break your journey into digestible steps:
What's one small change for January?
How will you build on it in February?
What support will you need by March?
Creating Sustainable Change
Remember:
Progress isn't linear
Small steps create lasting change
Community support enhances success
Think of this as a practice rather than a resolution that has an end date
Remember: This Is YOUR Journey
As you embark on this reflection and planning process, remember:
Your path is uniquely yours
Progress comes in many forms
Small steps lead to big changes
You're exactly where you need to be
Your Next Steps
Schedule your reflection time
Gather your materials
Create your sacred space
Trust the process
Begin with curiosity and compassion
